The influence of guitarist and songwriter Jimi Hendrix, one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated American rock musicians, reaches beyond rock to jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Gil Evans, and Larry Young. On the eve of Hendrix’s 75th birthday, drummer Ele Rubenstein explores his music, notably the Band of Gypsys recording, along with guitarist John Lee, bassist T. J. Turqman, and vocalist Isaac “Deacon Izzy” Bell.
